Yesid Vargas

I am a seasoned Senior Graphic Designer with over 25 years of extensive experience in the media industry. My achievements include winning six prestigious awards from the Society for News Design (SND), four from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association, and several others from the National Association of Hispanic Publications. Additionally, I have actively participated in various design and color training sessions and seminars hosted by the renowned Poynter Institute.

During the period spanning 1994 to 2001, I contributed my skills as a Graphic Designer at El Tiempo Newspaper, Colombia's most esteemed newspaper. In this role, I held responsibility for coordinating and designing the Sunday paper, while also overseeing the execution of the sports and special edition sections.

From 2001 to 2018, I held significant roles at Al Día News in Philadelphia, initially as an Art Director (2001-2017) and later as Director of Creative (2017-2018). My responsibilities included overseeing the design of the weekly print publication, periodic redesign of the company's logo every four years, creation of a bilingual gloss magazine, and the design of numerous editorial projects. Notable projects include the design for the Pope’s visit to Philadelphia in 2015, Tourist Guides of Philadelphia (GPTMC), Votante Guides, Copa America Centenario 2016, and World Cup Guides (2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018). I also curated special supplements for esteemed institutions like the Art Museum of Philadelphia, SEPTA, and the Art Institute. Concurrently, I supported the photography team by capturing images at significant events, such as the Copa America Centenario, the Papal Visit, and the Democratic National Convention, often contributing to cover features.

Since 2019, I have been operating as a Freelance Graphic Designer for agencies in New Jersey, where I have successfully developed bilingual advertising campaigns, branding strategies, and annual reports. Additionally, I have designed engaging games, brochures, and Custom Websites on platforms such as Squarespace.
